Use this homemade sauce recipe with your steaks to chicken, pork chops to roasts, omelettes and baked potatoes. The only thing that will limit you is your imagination.

What kind of mushrooms can I use for homemade mushroom sauce recipe?
Any type of mushroom can be used to make this sauce. This includes button or cup mushrooms, wild mushrooms or a mixture. For now, I have used white button mushrooms.
Depending upon their availability, you can try to make this recipe with cremini, porcini, shiitakes, chanterelles, and even baby white button mushrooms.
The mushrooms may be finely chopped, thinly sliced or cut into chunks depending on your preference.
To make this sauce smoother and creamier you can passed it through an upright blender. You can also use an immersion blender right in the pan.
What can I pair this sauce with?
You can make this recipe and pair it your meats. You can go wild with your steaks, pork chops, grilled chicken, steamed fish or meatballs.
You can use this super easy recipe for your baked pasta. Simply pour it over the pasta for a delicious meal. It is equally delicious with rice as a mushroom gravy.
Pour this sauce over roasted potatoes, baked potatoes, or hash browns. Pair it with asparagus, cauliflowers, boiled vegetables, or even a mix of sauteed vegetables.
Or, just eat the sauced mushroom by itself with some toasted sourdough bread or any other bread of your liking.
How to Make Mushroom Sauce or Mushroom Gravy?
Step by Step Recipe with Pictures
To make the creamy & delicious mushroom sauce recipe, heat 3 tbsp of butter in a pan and let it sizzle. Then, add chopped garlic and onions. Saute till the raw smell of garlic goes away and onions are translucent.
Add sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes.
Cook till the mushrooms turn soft, brown and loose their moisture for about 5 minutes. Add sea salt and dried thyme and cook for another minute.
More you brown the mushroom gravy, darker will be the final colour.
Add the milk and heavy cream. Bring the creamy mushroom gravy to a boil and then simmer till the mushroom sauce becomes thick.
Serve it with anything or everything.

Ingredients
- 500 gram Button Mushroom
- 4 Piece Garlic Cloves
- 1 Piece Red Onion
- 0.5 Teaspoon Sea Salt
- 0.5 Teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 Teaspoon Thyme
- 1 Cup Milk
- 200 ml Heavy Cream
- 1 Teaspoon Cornflour Optional
- 3 Tablespoon Salted Butter
Instructions

Notes
- More you brown the mushroom gravy, darker will be the final colour.
- At times, you are not able to get heavy cream. The fat content of cream is important to thicken the sauce.
- If this is the case you can add a teaspoon of cornflour mixed with water to the sauce & thicken it.
- You can adjust salt, black pepper and thyme to your liking.
- In case thyme is unavailable, you can use oregano or mixed herbs for flavouring your homemade mushroom sauce recipe.
