Are Mashed Potatoes Healthy?

Potatoes are low in fat, high in potassium and only have 150 calories per potato/serving. These are not empty calories either. There’s actual great vitamins and nutrients in those calories. So, nutrition and calorie-wise, potatoes are great to add to your diet.

The main reason potatoes may become

unhealthy is the way they’re prepared – especially when we are talking homemade mashed potatoes. It’s easy for the calories and fat to add up with all the butter, milk and cream generally in mashed potato.

You can simply make some substitutions for your healthy mash potatoes.

Everybody seems to have their favorite way of making mashed potatoes. Some cook them with the peel on, some without. Some add a little of the cooking water to the mashed potatoes for extra starch.

I have found that the single thing that makes the biggest difference for making perfect creamy, heavenly potatoes is the type of potatoes you use.

All in all, nothing beats a super-sized portion of delicious potato mash. So, mashed potato or a homemade mashed potatoes recipe is the solution. It is a super simple dish prepared by mashing boiled potatoes.

Are you mashed enough by now? Butter, milk and cream are also added to improve flavour and texture of the mashed potato.

And the potatoes can also be seasoned with salt, pepper, and any other desired herbs and spices.

You can also add, ingredients and seasonings like garlic, cheese, bacon bits, sour cream, crisp onion or spring onion, caramelised onion, mustard, horseradish, spices such as nutmeg, and chopped herbs such as parsley to mashed potatoes.

So if you love good, old fashioned homemade mashed potatoes this is the perfect recipe for you. It is super simple and delicious.
