Spice Goa – Seafood Galore

Spice Goa Review, C2, Sattadhar Complex, Karaswada, NH 17, Mapusa, Goa

Spice Goa from the Street

Spice Goa lets you live up to the adage “when in Rome, do as the Romans do“. The restaurant truly stands up to delivering the spirited Goan food to locals as well as tourists who can make it beyond the beaches of Goa.

Spice Goa has recently won the Times Food Award for the best seafood restaurant in Goa. So I was told and so I believed.

Ambience

Spice Goa restaurant is spread over multiple levels starting from the ground floor, up to the first and then a mezzanine. The welcome board outside announces the specials for the day, mainly seafood. Around late afternoon, the place was doing brisk business.

The eatery was well staffed with courteous servers. It was spankingly clean too. The walls were adorned by the accolades they had gathered as well as some of Mario Miranda’s art tiles. All this speaks a lot about an eatery.

Rahul Deshpande, my culinary guide in Goa, and I rested our bottoms and straight away ordered some Sol Kadi. “Sol Kadi” is a digestive drink which is made from kokum (a local souring agent) and coconut milk. The food on the menu was extensive, so we opted for thalis for both of us. A thali should give an overall flavour of the food at Spice Goa.

Food & Service

The food service was delayed but it arrived. I checked the food served in gigantic thalis and realised it was cold. As a result, I sent the thalis back for a replacement. It took them several minutes to serve again. This time the food was hot and looked tempting. I attacked the Chonak Rawa Fry which was delicious.

The veggies in the thali were not very inspiring but were good. The Masala Mussels were incredible and so was the Prawn Curry. The prawn curry, however, was a bit short on supply with the prawns. Hungry that we were we polished off everything in no time and were filled to the brim.

The food at Spice Goa is undoubtedly good. They lost out on points due to slow service and cold food. Hope these loose ends are tightened soon.
