Babru is also known as Baturu & Bedwan. These are very popular in Mandi, Kangra and Chamba regions of Himachal Pradesh.

There are sweet and savoury versions of this deep-fried puri, stuffed with jaggery syrup and soaked urad dal respectively.

What is babru made with?

Savoury babru is made by stuffing soaked black gram dal to a whole wheat dough added with salt and baking powder. Traditionally, this black gram filling does not have any spices but your can add salt& hing.

How is babru made?

The black gram or the whole urad dal is soaked overnight and is ground to a course mix. It is then stuffed it into the kachori or poori (depends upon the thickeness) and deep fried in oil. These resulting fried kachori or poori are called Babru.

How is babru eaten?

You can serve the babru along with Chana Madra and Boondi Raita for a delicious breakfast.
