Rustic Bread

A rustic bread is different from regular store bought bread in one or more of the following ways. Rustic bread uses traditional methods and natural ingredients. It also takes longer to make and can’t be made on a large scale. It is usually made by an artisan baker from a rural area.

Rustic bread is traditional bread fermented with rustic flour, sourdough and yeast. Usually, it’s hard and brown crust encloses a simple, bread interior with an extremely porous texture, making for an unusually inviting combination of chewiness and lightness.

Rustic breads have enjoyed a resurgence of culinary interest in recent years. This can be attributed to two main reasons: the decline of the quality of the baguette & consumer interest in a wider variety of breads beyond the plain soft white sandwich loaf.
