  • 500 gram Button Mushroom
  • 4 Piece Garlic Cloves
  • 1 Piece Red Onion
  • 0.5 Teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 0.5 Teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon Thyme
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 200 ml Heavy Cream
  • 1 Teaspoon Cornflour Optional
  • 3 Tablespoon Salted Butter


  • To make the creamy & delicious mushroom sauce, heat 3 tbsp of butter in a pan and let it sizzle.
  • Then, add chopped garlic and onions.
  • Saute till the raw smell of garlic goes away and onions are translucent.
  • Add sliced mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes.
  • Cook till the mushrooms turn soft, brown and loose their moisture for about 5 minutes.
  • Add sea salt, black pepper and dried thyme and cook for another minute.
  • Add the milk and heavy cream.
  • Bring the creamy mushroom gravy to a boil and then simmer till the mushroom sauce becomes thick.


  • More you brown the mushroom gravy, darker will be the final colour.
  • At times, you are not able to get heavy cream. The fat content of cream is important to thicken the sauce.
  • If this is the case you can add a teaspoon of cornflour mixed with water to the sauce & thicken it.
  • You can adjust salt, black pepper and thyme to your liking.
  • In case thyme is unavailable, you can use oregano or mixed herbs for flavouring your homemade mushroom sauce recipe.
