This is one of the simplest and yet tastiest omelettes that I have ever prepared and I do so every third day of the week. It becomes a decided part of a delicious breakfast to enjoy when you have the time to start your day in leisure.

The Story Behind Omelettes or Omelet

The earliest omelettes are believed to have originated in ancient Persia.

Further, according to the founding legend of the annual giant Easter omelette of Bessières, Haute-Garonne, when Napoleon Bonaparte and his army were travelling through southern France, they decided to rest for the night near the town of Bessières.

Napoleon feasted on an omelette prepared by a local innkeeper and thought it was a culinary delight. He then ordered the townspeople to gather all the eggs in the village and to prepare a huge omelette for his army the next day

Cheese Oregano Omelette – For Your Scrumptious Breakfast

Here is the simplest possible recipe for a Cheese Omelette spiked with oregano. It is no fuss, simple to make an awesome way to start your day. It uses the goodness of dry oregano herb which has culinary as well as medicinal benefits.

You can use your preferred cooking medium, vegetable oils or even butter to make this recipe.

Did you know? The “kirsch omelet” (or rum omelet) is a sweet omelet made with sugar and liquor, either kirsh or rum.

It doesn’t need grated cheese so that is a task avoided. However, if you wish you can always grate in some cheddar. I pair this two-egg cheese oregano omelette with three slices of toasted brown bread.

You can replace brown bread with the bread of your choice. Adding bread ensures I do not have a craving for more food until it is time for lunch.

You can also pair this omelette with my deliciously healthy Banana Ginger Smoothie for a complete, healthy and satisfying breakfast.

Tip: Be careful of salt you add to the eggs since oregano also contributes its native saltiness to the cheese omelette.

Ingredients

  • 2 Piece Eggs
  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 Piece Green Chili
  • 1 Piece Cheese Slice I use “Go”; You can use Amul
  • 0.25 Teaspoon Salt Do adjust it to suit your taste
  • 1 Teaspoon Olive Oil

Instructions

  • First of all get your ingredients together.
  • Now, finely chop green chillies.
  • Break two eggs and beat them with a fork or an egg beater in a bowl.
  • Add oregano and green chillies to the bowl and beat well till eggs are fluffy.
  • At the end, add salt to suit your taste and whisk well.
  • Heat olive oil in a frying and pour the egg mixture to it.
  • Spread the egg mixture a bit keeping the round shape. This allows omelette to cook evenly.
  • Once you see the omelette drying on the top, give it a flip with a flat spatula.
  • When the other side is cooked, flip it back again and place the cheese slice on the left side.
  • Fold in a half moon shape and remove from fire. The cheese keeps on melting as you plate the omelette.
  • Serve with toasted bread of your choice. I used brown bread but there are no restrictions. Have a great start of the day.

Notes

  • Add any variety of fresh, chopped herbs to your omelette.
  • Cheese omelettes are a brilliant way to use up extra feta and goat cheeses, too.

What's the Difference Between an Omelet and an Omelette?

Omelet is the Americanized spelling for an omelette. They’re made in the same way and with the same ingredients. However, a classic French omelette is rolled (or double-folded), while omelette chefs in the U.S. usually fold the omelette in half.
