About Siliserh Lake Alwar & Siliserh Lake Palace Alwar
Spread over an approximate area of 7 kilometres, this charming Siliserh Lake Alwar owes its establishment to Maharao Raja Vinay Singh.
The lake and aqueducts around it were built to supply water to the city of Alwar. Siliserh Alwar also houses a striking Lake Palace which was made for the Maharaja’s beloved Queen Shila in 1845.
The tranquil lake is nestled in the hills; the sparkling ripples of the lake cover an area of about 10.5 sq. Kms, surrounded by a thick forest and magnificent cenotaphs on its embankment.
The Water Palace of Siliserh Alwar that also served as a Royal Hunting Lodge, is at an edge of the lake surrounded by low wooded hills. It is enroute Sariska National Park.
Located some 13 kilometres from the city of Alwar, Siliserh Lake Alwar is really a famous site for picnics.
The erstwhile palace has been converted into a tourist bungalow or a hotel and offers an inventory of 12 Luxury Suites, Air-conditioned and Non Air-conditioned Rooms.
How to get to Siliserh Lake Alwar?
By Bus: Regular bus services link Siliserh Alwar with key destinations in and not far off Rajasthan and Delhi. The bus stand is located at 13 Kms from Siliserh.
By Train: Alwar railway station is 15 Kms from Siliserh. It has good train connections from prominent locations in and around the state and Delhi.
By Air: Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi 163 km and Jaipur Airport is around 150 km from Siliserh Alwar.

Where to halt for breakfast on Alwar Highway Enroute Siliserh
We travelled out from Delhi at 10 AM in the morning and hit the Alwar Highway from Bhiwadi Bypass thereby avoiding the clutter of traffic at Dharuhera. The road was well maintained and pretty much bump free.
The second road approach is directly through the highway to Behror, from where you swing on a left turn onto the state highway. The drive to Alwar is about 70 kilometres from Behror.
I opted for the state highway from Bhiwadi since I had used the trip before for my biker road trip as well as a road trip to Bhangarh Fort a few years back. The road was known to me and being a state highway I didn’t expect much traffic.
We hadn’t eaten breakfast so we stayed on a lookout for a clean dhaba where we could fill our bellies before moving on to Siliserh Alwar.
Eventually, we landed at Gulshan Dhaba that proclaimed this was a branch of the famous Gulshan Dhaba at Murthal.

It was a big spaced establishment and we found ourselves seated comfortably and ordering for breakfast in no time. We feasted on parathas with pickles and washed it all down with multiple cups of masala tea. Overall it turned out to be quite satisfactory.
Their service was quite prompt for the rush that was coming in there and washrooms were relatively clean as well with a boy keeping the clean.
We scooted from Gulshan Dhaba Alwar Road as soon as was possible to get to Siliserh. Do note that the payment at the first toll on the highway will be valid through the next two tolls as well.
The road was relatively empty so traffic clutter spared us. Upon reaching Alwar I realised that their city roads were quite well maintained but had a usual humdrum of the usual North Indian cities.
The route was simply straight and in no time, we reached Siliserh Circle and turned right onto the country road. This road was a disaster and really needs to be repaired. it seemed to be rotting into sand over the years.
Right at the end of the road I came to a turn leading to Sariska National Park to my left which I crossed and entered a lane leading to the Siliserh Lake.

The short drive from the Sariska turn brings you upto the entry to the Lake & Lake Palace.
The fee is appointed at Rs.100 for entry and can be used for a single serve of tea/ coffee or a bottle of water or a small cold drink at their Lake View Restaurant.
The so called restaurant is more of a dilapidated canteen managed by uninterested employees of Rajasthan Tourism. Their bar was locked and the restaurant or the canteen had a limited food menu for day visitors.
However, the canteen was serving beer to the day tourists.
Having spent an hour there, it was evident that the Royal Residence needs a lot maintenance. They really need to clean spider webs and dust from the walls. The walls need to be re-painted and the floors need to be cleaned.
The expansive & lovely terrace was haunted by loud humans and equally contesting simians to better the other. The simians seemed to have an upper hand.
I asked the manager to see the rooms but was declined since all were occupied. But they allowed me to the upper terrace that offers magnificent views. I could make out that the room were spacious but not maintained.
The top terrace offers an almost two seventy degrees view overlooking the lake from three sides. You can enjoy a nice breeze here.
The boat ride was being well appreciated by everyone but no one seemed to have spotted any crocodiles that do have a limited habitat in the lake. Everyone seemed to be glued to their phones and clicking selfies.
Boating [Rs. 800 for a full boat] is recommended; one may witness crocodiles, water birds and fish in lake. Water scooters are also available. The boat ride offers a full view of the magnificent palace located atop the small hill.
At the end, everyone seemed to be having a good time including families with kids and elderlies as well as group of friends, but the Lake Palace Siliserh was bleeding and was wanting to be wanted and not to be trashed.

Where to Stay in Alwar?
Hotels in Alwar that Maybe Ideal for 3-4 Day Exploratory Vacation or a Road Trip
While I agree that the Lake Palace Siliserh may not be an ideal place to reside for a vacation. It is dilapidated, unclean and the staff doesn’t care for maintenance of the venue so it seems. However, the staff appeared to be very humble and cooperative when I spoke to them.
Not for nothing, Government Properties receive so much flak. It’s a pity that such a wonderful property at such a mesmerising location (overlooking the lake) should be reduced to a cheap booze spot.
It is obvious, the Lake Palace urgently needs renovation. RTDC that manages the property should take the state’s history seriously and to make it worth a memorable royal stay. As of now it is clear that the intent is lacking.
However, Alwar does have some nice resorts that you can book for residing comfortably as well as luxuriously. Most of the places of interest are located at a short distance from the city centre.

So now, just to sum it up the entire experience
In my opinion that barring the state of affairs that the erstwhile Royal Lake Palace Siliserh is today, it is a nice place to have a friends or family picnic with an hour long boat ride.
In absence of a royal menu in the Siliserh canteen, you can always opt for some nice Rajasthani food at the Dhabas that for a line right outside the entrance to the Lake.
We road trippers didn’t eat in the vicinity but went off to Alwar city craving for some Rajasthani food. I googled and chanced upon a reasonably decent restaurant called Al Lazeez that is located on the state highway Alwar – Bhiwadi road. Al Lazeez is a good & clean stop if you are on the Alwar Bhiwadi road travelling. towards Delhi.
If you need more, the gateway to wildlife, Sariska National Park is tucked away amidst the majestic ranges of Aravalli and provides a bountiful of nature and wildlife to those seeking for nature’s natural side.
One of the top rated tourist spots, Jai Samand Lake lies in the outskirts of Alwar and is carefully beautified by the Maharaja built Chattris which adds on to the glamour of Alwar.
So overall, if you do a short 3-4 day holiday via a road trip, you can come back very happy from this area. And from Delhi or Gurgaon, the distance is really negligible while the moments will be priceless.
