Peshawari Gosht or Peshawari Mutton Kadai or Peshawari Mutton Curry – Peshawari Gosht is a deliciously rustic meat dish. Traditionally, small cubes of lamb or goat are cooked in ginger, salt, black pepper and/or green chilli, and preferably animal fat.

The fresh meat provides the fat base for cooking, and it is most sumptuous when served with a side of hot naan and chopped onions.

Peshawari Gosht or Kadai Gosht is a Pakistani non-vegetarian dish made using mutton and very few spices. It is best relished with flatbreads.

Peshawari Gosht is a delicacy from the cuisine of Peshawar, the biggest city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.

Peshawari Gosht Kadai is a Pakistani style of cooking in the kadai which is using minimum ingredients and yet the taste is glorious.

We don’t add many spices in this dish aside from rock salt, black pepper, red and green chillies. Just make sure that freshly ground black pepper is available. This makes a lot of difference in the taste.

You also don’t have to add any water during cooking, because you cook the mutton under steam. You can make this in butter or oil, depending on what you like.

Traditionally, in Pakistan, people make this dish with clarified butter or ghee, which you can use as well if you have it on hand. In anyways, this dish doesn’t require too many ingredients even though surprisingly it tastes unforgettably delicious.

In India as well as Pakistan, Kadhai Gosht is considered to be a traditional dish that is mostly prepared without fail during an elaborate festive meal and on various auspicious occasions as well.

Let peshawari gosht bhuno

A simple and wholesome recipe that can be made with a few ingredients and can be eaten along with phulka or naan. The pulpy tomatoes give a rich and tangy flavour to the mutton when it is cooked.

Ingredients

  • 5-6 number Tomatoes
  • ½ cup Ghee
  • 750 grams mutton Cut into 1 and ½ inch pieces
  • 2 teaspoons Salt or to taste
  • 5-6 number Green chillies Cut into quarters
  • 2 inch Ginger
  • 8-10 number Garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh coriander chopped

Instructions

  • Get your ingredients ready.
  • Pound the ginger and garlic into a paste.
  • Halve the tomatoes and set aside.
  • Heat ghee in a kadai.
  • Increase the heat to high and add mutton and add salt.
  • Add pounded ginger and garlic mix.
  • Next, add chopped green chillies and mix well.
  • Add the halves of the tomatoes.
  • Cover the kadai and let the mutton cook.
  • Mash the tomatoes nicely.
  • Let the Peshawari gosht bhuno further till done.
  • Garnish with coriander.
  • Peshawari Gosht is ready to be served

Notes

  • There is no need to add any extra water as the mutton will cook in its own juices. However, if the curry is getting dry and burning at the bottom of the pan at any point while cooking, feel free to add some water.
  • You can add a handful of crushed crispy fried onions or birista while cooking the mutton for a richer taste.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Peshawari Karahi Gosht Recipe can be made any day along with some hot phulka or tandoori roti and jeera rice. Pickled onions complement this very well.
