Jardin d’Ulysse Morjim & It's Evolution
Some History - How did Jardin d'Ulysee Cafe came into Being & is Growing?
The story of Jardin d’Ulysse is one of the more enduring “slow life” success stories in North Goa.
While much of Morjim has transformed into a high-energy party hub, this property has spent over 16 years evolving from a boutique restaurant into a multi-generational family retreat.
The heart of Jardin d’Ulysse is its owner, Gilbert, whom guests often describe as the quintessential host.
The history of the property is reflected in its eclectic room designs. Each of the six cottages is named after a person or a theme, blending rustic Goan styles with modern comforts.
The property recently updated its branding to Jardin d’Ulysse & Hard Rock, signalling a shift toward more live entertainment and “rock ‘n’ roll” energy, though it maintains its lush, garden-heavy aesthetic.
The restaurant was the foundation of the brand’s fame long before it became a full-fledged resort.
The menu has historically leaned into French and European influences (fitting the name “Jardin,” French for Garden).
Today, it operates as a 4-star boutique bed and breakfast. It has successfully navigated the shift from a hidden riverside gem to a recognised boutique brand while keeping its primary draw: a quiet, leafy sanctuary right where the river meets the sea.
Jardin d’Ulysse - The Unique Quaint Restaurant
Jardin d’Ulysse is located at Morjim North Goa
Jardin d’Ulysse Morjim is a uniquely placed restaurant, given its location & menu.
Why is it unique?
The restaurant built with wood and cane serves excellent food over a limited but a well structured menu.
It is housed in a grove of trees, and with well-attended, controlled foliage, the paths of stone and gravel have a very welcoming, serene feel.
It features a rustic-chic aesthetic with plenty of open-air seating, tropical plants, and soft lounge music.
It’s intimate, cosy, and perfect for both romantic dinners and relaxed gatherings with friends.
Located on the bank of the Chapora river, which flows on the other side of the 10 ft wide road, the beach is a mere one-minute walk.
Essentially, it is on the mouth of the Chapora estuary. The area around is a peaceful, out of the hustle and bustle of the town – but not a lonely place.
The food is where Jardin d’Ulysse truly shines. The menu reflects a thoughtful mix of Goan, French, and Mediterranean flavours.
Jardin d’Ulysse is the Day's Spotlight
The Menu Offers Dishes from Italian, Continental, Salad, Tibetan, Asian, Desserts, Coffee & Beverages .
I have been staying at HIBIS Hotel since the time Sujit’s company took it over. However, went to Jardin d’Ulysee for my daily coffee and snacking.
The moment I first stepped in, many years ago, I felt as if I had entered the gates of heaven. That feeling remains till now.
Jardin d’Ulysee’s cleanliness, lush green surroundings, and artistic design are always mesmerising.
The restaurant is set in a beautiful garden with lush greenery, warm lights, and rustic wooden seating that immediately transports you to a serene, almost European countryside setting.
Mosquitoes get bugging in the evenings, and the problem is not resolved with the provided repellent coils or ointments. After 5 PM, you cater yourself to the buffet for mosquitoes.
They are pet-friendly; they have a bunch of friendly doggies out at the restaurant at all times. I have been there many times, but the dogs are quite peaceful and don’t invade your space.
From quiet mornings dedicated to writing and coffee to relaxed afternoon lunches, Jardine d’Ulysee is a versatile retreat.
As day turns to night, it becomes the perfect venue to settle in and enjoy a couple of beers.
It’s an ideal spot for “work-from-anywhere” sessions (with coffee), long romantic dinners, or a quiet afternoon glass of wine or beer.
The staff is friendly, cordial and helpful, always eager to make your visit more comfortable.
These young guys, always smiling & working with great enthusiasm, treat their customers respectfully. Their prompt service and humility win your heart.

The restaurant kitchen leans toward European and French-influenced cuisine, but it is surprisingly diverse.
Must-Try Dishes: Guests consistently rave about the Tuna Teriyaki, Honey Mustard Pork Chops, and the Crispy Calamari.
The Sweet Stuff: Do not leave without trying the Banana Flambé or their homemade cheesecakes.
Breakfast: It’s famous for a hearty breakfast spread, making it a favourite for “brunchers” who appreciate high-quality coffee and fresh ingredients.
Vegan Friendly: They offer a dedicated vegan menu, which is a significant plus for the Morjim area.
You can enjoy a relaxed meal in the garden restaurant, complete with great wines.
I have ordered a simple mocktails at Jardin d’Ulysee: Ruby Mania, Limonata and Aloha cooler, and they have been extremely refreshing every time.
Even with my coffee or an evening beer, I have noticed they give a complementary starter with bread and hummus if you order more than a single dish or beverage.

Once, I had ordered a Tenderloin beef steak. The beef was so tough that it spoiled my mood to come back again to eat.
But I did and ordered Fresh Spring Rolls this time, which were avocado & ruccolla wrapped in rice paper. These were very fresh and appetising.

The property is family-run (often associated with the hosts Gilbert and Ryan), and the service reflects that. It is personal, warm, and attentive without being intrusive.
The property, apart from the cosy restaurant, houses a few extremely well done cottages and a small boutique store (Zephyr by Fleur) for a diverse collection of ethnic kaftans, totes, jewellery and whatever else your sun-kissed heart may desire.
Their offered accommodation for starters has a ‘Goan home’ feel. The quantum of accommodation is limited and styled like an ancestral home of a large family.
No two rooms are alike, be it in size, décor or furniture, but all are not in one building; they are spread through the small property. Yet the facilities are all there for a modern lifestyle.
