What is Alaichi – Alaichi is the Kashmiri name for cardamom (इलायची) – Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) is a herbaceous, perennial plant in the Zingiberaceae (ginger family), native to southern India. Cardamom is a spice with an intense, slightly sweet flavour that some people compare to mint. It originated in India but is available worldwide today and used in both sweet and savoury recipes.
It is also cultivated widely in tropical regions and reportedly naturalised in Réunion, Indochina, and Costa Rica.
Although India is the largest producer of cardamom, only a small share of the Indian production is exported because of the large domestic demand.
