Army Public School (APS Dagshai) is a boarding school located in Dagshai, India. It lies on top of the Dagshai Hills. General K Sunderji and General R S Dayal established this school in 1986 under HQ Western Command.
It is a coeducational residential School affiliated with the CBSE, New Delhi, and is a member of the Indian Public Schools’ Conference. The school is ranked 9th among the top boarding schools in India.
The name Dagshai, according to a popular local legend was derived from Daag-e-Shahi or Royal Mark. During the Mogul times, a Daag-e-Shahi was put on the forehead of the criminals and sent packing to the then Dagshai village.
This can also be seen on a rock edict on the school premises. The closest railway station is Kumarhatti located some 2 kilometres from Dagshai. Trains from and to Kalka operate on this track between Kalka and Shimla.
The first batch of APS Dagshai had 78 boys and 11 girls.
The basic objective was to have classes V, VI AND VII initially and to add on a class each year up to XII. New students are admitted to Classes V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and XI.
APS Dagshai prepares the student of Class X for the All India Secondary School Examination and those of Class XII for the All India Senior Secondary School Examination.
