What is Siyahi Jeera? Siyahi Jeera (सियाही जीरा) is the Hindi name for Black Caraway Seed. Also known as Shahi jeera or Kala Jeera), siyahi jeera is native to northern India and Central Asia. It is longer, thinner and much darker than regular cumin seeds and has earthy notes of cumin but milder and sweeter. After toasting the seeds, the flavour becomes slightly nutty. Use in small amounts to flavour meats, soups, stews, rice and sauces. It is quite popular with the Mughal cooking like biryani, korma, Mughlai & tandoori dishes for authentic nutty flavour.
