UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India

UNESCO World Heritage Convention which was established in 1972, recognised various sites of cultural and natural importance around the world. Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) encourages the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.

After the latest addition to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list, India has now 38 World Heritage Sites, and that makes India with the 6th largest number of World Heritage Sites in the world!

UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India include 30 cultural sites, 7 natural sites and 1 mixed.
