What is Carum carvi? Carum carvi is the botanical name for Caraway Seeds. Carum carvi is native to northern India and Central Asia. It is is a biennial plant in the family Apiaceae, longer, thinner and much darker than regular cumin seeds and has earthy notes of cumin but milder and sweeter. After toasting the seeds, the flavour becomes slightly nutty. Use in small amounts to flavour meats, soups, stews, rice and sauces. It is quite popular with the Mughal cooking like biryani, korma, Mughlai & tandoori dishes for authentic nutty flavour.
