Briefly About Udaipur
Udaipur was founded in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the new capital of Mewar Kingdom. It is located in the fertile, circular Girwa Valley to the southwest of Nagda, which was the first capital of Mewar.

Udaipur is a city, a municipal corporation and the administrative headquarters of the Udaipur district in Rajasthan. Udaipur is located 403 kilometres from Jaipur and 250 km and northeast from Ahmedabad. Udaipur is the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar.
What is Udaipur Famous For?
Often referred to as the ‘Venice of the East’, the city of lakes Udaipur is located around azure water lakes and is hemmed in by lush green hills of the Aravalli.

The famous Lake Palace, located in the middle of Lake Pichola is one of the most beautiful sights of Udaipur. It is also home to Jaisamand Lake, claimed to be the second largest man-made sweet water lake in Asia.

The beautiful City Palace and Sajjangarh (Monsoon Palace) add to the architectural beauty and grandeur of the city. The city is also known for its profusion of zinc and marble.

Solar observatory in Lake Fateh Sagar is the only observatory in India located on an island and has been made on the pattern of  Big Bear Lake in Southern California.

The ten-day Shilpgram Festival which starts from 21 Dec to 30 Dec pulls in a large number of people interested in arts and crafts.
How to reach Udaipur?
By Air: Udaipur can be easily reached from all major cities in the region. It has the Maharana Pratap international Airport or Udaipur Airport or Dabok Airport which is just 22km east of the city. Domestic airlines like Air India, IndiGo, Jet Airways and SpiceJet connect the city to Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

By Train: Udaipur Railway Station is located on the Udaipur Road, just 3km from the city centre and around 20km from the airport. There are regular trains that connect Udaipur with all major cities including Delhi, Chittorgarh, Mumbai, Agra, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and more. Udaipur is a major stop for the lavish Palace on Wheels.

By Road: Udaipur is well connected by road to all the major cities of Rajasthan and its neighbouring states. The Udaipur Bus Stand has regular buses connecting Udaipur with all nearby cities including Jaipur, Delhi, Indore Chittorgarh, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Kota and Mt. Abu. Rajasthan Roadways is the main public sector transport service in the area and provides the facility of Deluxe and AC coaches for the comfort and convenience of its passengers.
