Appus Hotel, INA Market, Mohan Singh Market Complex, New Delhi Review
Appus Hotel is located in INA Market and is an icon of sorts. Therefore, being in the vicinity I decided to pay them a foodie visit. So here I was at this quaint restaurant that as per Delhi foodies served excellent Malayali food or food from Kerala.
I have missed decent Malayali food ever since Keraleeyam in Yusuf Sarai shut down its doors. In fact, for me, people behind Keraleeyam were the stalwarts of good Malayali food in Delhi. So as I approached, I wondered if Appus Hotel will match up with the goodness of Keraleeyam.
Appus Hotel is close to Delhi Metro’s exit gate towards INA Market side. So as you get off a short flight of stairs and move a few paces you are at Appus. I found people at Appus welcoming and eager to serve.
However, it seemed not many people frequented it at 8:30 PM in the evening. There was just one table occupied.
Thereafter, the burly owner directed me to the first floor and that was empty too. While I took a table, I was not quite impressed with the ambience. While the furniture was at best functional, the floor was dirty. Then, there was a delay in taking the order. I guess the cook was not at the location.
When asked, I placed an order of Appam, Idiyappam and a Parotta all priced at Rs.10 each. So the price point is a definite attraction for Appus guests. With the bread done, for the main course, I opted for a fish fry that was served with gravy (Rs.70) and their chicken roast (Rs.120).
While the flavours of the mains were quite nice, though the bread served were plainly stale and cold. So this didn’t go very well with me. I also ordered a bottle of water which took almost ten minutes to land upon my table.
All in all a bill of Rs.240 was not at all princely, though I am sure if service and food experience improve, more like me may convert and really like this place. But one thing is proven, you cannot have a meal at those prices in Gurgaon.

To Sum-It-Up: Appus serves decent Malayali food and is quite affordable. Though, they need to pay little more attention to detail when it comes to service and food. For this will surely bring people like me back to them. So as of now I stay unconverted and may not go back.
