Soy Khan Market Review, 58, Middle Lane, Khan Market, New Delhi
Soy Khan Market has been my intermittent haunt ever since it opened.
Hugely preferred & frequented by expats and Delhi’s elite for their daily needs, branded retail therapy and gourmet food, Khan Market in Central Delhi is one of the most happening high streets in India. Soy adds to the acclaimed list of accomplished brands in the neighbourhood.
Soy Khan Market is a split level restaurant and starts on the first floor – the lower level that houses the fine dining spaces and a well-stocked bar; and the upper level that is home to the interactive kitchen, some more dining spaces and a lusciously green terrace with an alfresco dining option.
The terrace is a great space to have your parties with Soy Restaurant’s decadent food. The interiors of Soy restaurant are quite snazzy with origami birds hanging in the open stairwell that cheers you up.
The restaurant is dotted with golden Buddha statues that deliver an instant calmness. Soy Khan Market is a restaurant that is very aesthetically done. The furniture is quite comfortable, restrooms are clean and the terrace has mist to keep you cool on a dry and sultry summer evening. A lot of attention to detail has been given.
The food at Soy Khan Market is simply for self-indulgence. On my last visit for a party of seven, a very elaborate menu was executed. Each dish was exemplary. We started with an array of starters including a mixed sushi platter Philadelphia Sushi, Salmon Sushi & Avocado & Cheese Sushi. The three presented sushi were just outstanding and the entire group had trouble deciding on which was the best of the lot.
The second round of starters comprised of Steamed Fish with Sichuan Pepper which was literally melting in the mouth, Wasabi Prawns which had a hint of wasabi and were a hit & Tai Chi Chicken which when compared with the rest was .. Well! err! just chicken. Along with this spread, there were the ubiquitous Dim Sum – Pak Choy & Water Chestnut, Steamed Chilli & Fresh Coriander, BBQ Chicken & Steamed Fish in Black bean Sauce. All of which was really pleasing to the palate.
I have to mention that the staff at Soy Khan Market was very courteous, focused and out there to spoil us. The drinks were flowing without any delay and the DJ was playing the strings we wanted.
The journey of splendid taste continued on with the main course. We started with Stir-Fried Fish with Lemon Butter & Garlic. The fish was crispy on the outside and really juicy on the inside. It was a perfect companion to delicately spiced Thai Green Curry with Vegetables and spicy Wok Fried Chicken with Fresh Chilli & Green Bell Peppers.
For vegetarians, there was Snake Beans with Tofu, which I did taste & found them to be really good. One of those days when you caught me praising vegetarian food.
I am not much for desserts, however, I could not resist the fresh fruit platter and a portion of Vanilla ice cream and chocolate cigar. By the time we hit desserts we were all so full that we had to decline the others in we would have committed by gorging on a variety of cakes presented to our table.
To Sum-It-Up: If you are a regular to Khan Market & have not visited Soy, you have really missed decadent Chinese food right in your neighbourhood. Go for it as soon as you can.
