Karahi chicken is usually cooked with freshly roasted ground spices in onion and tomato mixture, with kasoori methi, ginger julienne, green bell peppers (capsicum), which make this curry different from others.
This karahi chicken is semi gravy or in thicker gravy than other curries. It is undoubtedly full of aroma and taste. It goes well when paired with roti (chapati), naan or any kind of rice.

Chicken Karahi Recipe | Punjabi Kadai Chicken Recipe – Juicy chicken chunks simmer in a spicy curry of tomatoes, chillies, onion and host of spices.
Kadai Chicken Recipe | Punjabi Kadai Chicken Recipe | Chicken Karahi
Ingredients
- 600 gram Chicken Boneless Cut in cubes
- 1.5 tbsp Rice Bran Oil
- 1/2 tbsp Coriander Seeds
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 Piece Onions Medium-sized
- 3 Piece Tomatoes
- 1.5 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- 100 grams Tomato Puree
- 1/2 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tbsp Coriander Powder
- 1/2 tbsp Garam Masala Powder
- 2 tbsp Cream
- 1 Piece Capsicum Cut into strips of 1.5 inches
- 1/2 tbsp Kasoori Methi
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
- Cut chicken into 1-inch cubes.
- Roughly chop onions and tomatoes. Blitz tomatoes to make a puree. Slice capsicum or Shimla mirch into strips.
- Heat rice bran oil in a wok or a kadai. If you don’t have a kadai you can use a frying pan.
- Add coriander seeds and cumin seeds to oil and let them splutter.
- Add onions and fry till just about brown.
- Add chicken, dry masalas and cook till masalas turn fragrant.
- Add ginger garlic paste and fry till their smell goes away.
- Add pureed tomatoes and packaged tomato puree.
- Add kasoori methi and capsicum.
- Once chicken is done add cream. Cream adds a little richness to this recipe.
- Leave it on slow fire for about 2 minutes and your Kadai Chicken is ready to be served.
- Enjoy it with laccha parantha.
Notes
You can use chicken with bone as well.
You can add additional capsicum as per your taste and required quantity. Or add red and yellow bell peppers too.
