What is Carom – Carom is an alternate English name for Carom seeds or Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi). Carom is also known as Carom, Carom caraway, thymol seeds, Carom, or carom. It is an annual herb in the family Apiaceae.
Both the leaves and the seed‑like fruit of Carom plant are consumed by humans. It looks similar to fennel and cumin seeds and is highly fragrant, smelling like thyme. Its taste, however, is more like oregano and anise due to the bitter notes and strong flavour.

Carom has an aroma almost exactly like thyme because it also contains thymol, but they are more aromatic and less subtle in taste, as well as being somewhat bitter and pungent.
T. ammi or ajwain is widely cultivated as a spice for curries in India, the Mediterranean and Ethiopia. Usually the fruits are dried, roasted and ground before use.
