Founded in 1923 by Jaya Dayal Goyandka and Hanuman Prasad Poddar in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Gita Press is one of the world’s largest publishers of Hindu religious texts.
Operating under the umbrella of Gobind Bhawan Karyalaya, the institution was established with the primary objective of promoting the principles of Sanatana Dharma by making sacred literature widely accessible and affordable to the general public.
Over a century of operation, Gita Press has published hundreds of millions of books, including the Bhagavad Gita, Ramcharitmanas, Upanishads, Puranas, and various devotional works across multiple languages, predominantly Hindi and Sanskrit.
Its flagship monthly publications, Kalyan (in Hindi) and Kalyana-Kalpataru (in English), cover spiritual topics, ethics, and traditional Indian philosophy.
Recognised globally for its commitment to high-quality printing, textual authenticity, and non-commercial ethos, Gita Press was awarded the prestigious Gandhi Peace Prize in 2021 in recognition of its outstanding contribution to social, cultural, and spiritual transformation.
