Koderma Adventure Park Telaiya Dam - The Story
Discerning travellers pause at the Koderma Adventure Park Telaiya Dam (FRH)
For decades, the district of Koderma in Jharkhand was known primarily for its mica mines and its rugged, forest-clad hills. But in 2026, the narrative has shifted.
Nestled on the banks of the massive Teliya Dam Reservoir, the Koderma Adventure Park has emerged as the premier destination for those who seek to combine raw, natural beauty with heart-pounding thrills.
This isn’t just a park; it is a sprawling, multi-terrain playground that utilises the unique topography of the Chota Nagpur plateau to offer an experience that is equal parts “wild” and “wonder.”
Whether you are a solo traveller looking for an adrenaline fix or a family seeking an active getaway, Koderma Adventure Park is the new gold standard for eco-adventure in Eastern India.
Further to Barhi FRH, Shri Maun Prakash (IFS) fixed our meeting (Sujit Sinha, Pranab Pal and me) with the Deputy Commissioner or Collector of Koderma, Shri Rituraj (IAS).
While we were en route to meet him, Shri Rituraj deputed one of his Junior Engineers to meet us and take us to the Koderma Adventure Park.
He also insisted that we visit their floating restaurant being a high point of the park.

The Location: Koderma Adventure Park
The glamour of Koderma Adventure Park lies in its location.
The glamour of Koderma Adventure Park lies in its location.
It sits at the edge of the Koderma Wildlife Sanctuary, where the deep greens of the Sal forest collide with the sapphire blues of the Teliya Dam Reservoir.
Unlike urban adventure parks that feel artificial and confined, Koderma feels expansive. Every activity is designed to make you interact with the environment.
The air is crisp, scented by the surrounding Mahua trees, and the soundtrack isn’t pop music from loudspeakers – it’s the rustle of leaves and the distant splash of the reservoir waves.
It is a rare “outdoor-first” philosophy that makes every climb and every zip-line feel like a genuine exploration.

Aero-Adventures: Touching the Jharkhand Sky
The centrepiece of the park is its aerial circuit.
The centrepiece of the park is its aerial circuit. Given the hilly terrain, the park has installed some of the longest and most scenic zip-lines in the region.
- The Mega Zip-Line: Stretching across a portion of the reservoir, this zip-line offers a literal “bird’s eye view” of the Tilaiya Dam. As you soar hundreds of feet above the water, the scale of the landscape opens up before you. It is a cinematic experience that captures the true majesty of Jharkhand.
- The High-Ropes Course: Suspended among the sturdy branches of old-growth trees, this course features Burma bridges, swinging logs, and spider nets. It is a test of balance and nerve, designed to challenge even seasoned adventurers.
- The Observation Tower: For those who prefer the view without the velocity, the park’s central tower offers a 360-degree panorama of the reservoir and the distant blue hills of Hazaribagh.

Water-Base Thrills: The Reservoir’s Edge
Because the park is situated on the banks of the Telaiya Dam, the water activities are nice.
Because the park is situated on the banks of the Telaiya Dam, the water activities are world-class.
The reservoir acts as a massive, still-water arena for sports that are usually reserved for coastal regions.
- Jet Skiing & Speed Boating: For those who feel the “need for speed,” the park offers high-powered jet skis. Racing across the mirror-still surface of the reservoir with the wind in your face is the ultimate summer thrill.
- Kayaking & Canoeing: If you prefer a slower pace, kayaking along the shoreline allows you to explore the hidden inlets and quiet coves of the reservoir. It’s also the best way to spot the migratory birds that frequent the area in the winter.
- Parasailing: In 2026, the park introduced winch-boat parasailing. Being lifted from a boat into the sky above the dam is an experience that rivals anything you would find in Goa or Dubai.
- The Floating Restaurant: Jharkhand’s first floating restaurant, inaugurated at Telaiya Dam in 2025, has quickly become a centre of attraction and discussion. The floating restaurant (technically a platform mounted on a speedboat) is available for booking for occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, pre-wedding shoots, or other celebrations.
Dining: The "Adventurer’s Fuel"
The park features an open-air cafeteria that serves what may be called “Adventure Comfort Food.”
The park features an open-air cafeteria that serves what may be called “Adventure Comfort Food” by customers who visit and order.
It is technically a covered cluster of metro sheets that serves prepackaged food and cold drinks. We ordered coffee, which was never served despite the empty park.
So we were severely disappointed and still headed to the Collectorate for our meeting.
- The Menu: Expect high-energy local snacks like Dhuska with spicy chickpea curry, alongside grilled sandwiches and fresh fruit juices.
- The Signature Drink: A chilled Bel Sharbat (Wood Apple nectar), which is the traditional energy drink of Jharkhand—perfect for rehydrating after a session on the high ropes.
The Land Circuit: Off-Roading and Rock Stars
The rugged, rocky terrain of Koderma is a natural fit for land-based adventure
The rugged, rocky terrain of Koderma is a natural fit for land-based adventure. The park has leaned into this “ruggedness” with several high-energy land activities.
- ATV Dirt Track: A specially designed track that winds through the forest floor and over rocky outcrops. Manoeuvring a 4×4 All-Terrain Vehicle through the mud and dust of Koderma is a raw, visceral experience.
- Natural Rock Climbing: Instead of plastic walls, the park utilises the actual granite boulders of the plateau. Under the supervision of certified instructors, climbers can test their grip on the same rocks that have stood for millions of years.
- Archery & Rifle Shooting: A dedicated zone for those who want to test their precision. The range is set against a backdrop of deep forest, making you feel like a hunter from a bygone era.
The Vibe: Sustainable Adventure
What makes Koderma Adventure Park "glamorous" in the modern sense is its commitment to the environment.
What makes Koderma Adventure Park “glamorous” in the modern sense is its commitment to the environment.
In 2026, travellers care about their footprint, and the park has listened.
- Eco-Friendly Infrastructure: Most of the structures are built using bamboo, local stone, and recycled materials.
- Plastic-Free Zone: The park is a strict zero-plastic area, encouraging guests to use the traditional earthen kulhad for tea and biodegradable plates for snacks.
- Community Integration: Most of the instructors and staff are from local villages, trained to international safety standards. Their knowledge of the land adds a layer of authenticity that no corporate park can match.
The Verdict: Is It Worth the Trip?
Absolutely. Koderma Adventure Park is the perfect antidote to the sedentary lifestyle of the city. It challenges your body, clears your mind, and reminds you of the immense natural beauty that India’s heartland holds. It is a place where you can be a child again—climbing trees, splashing in water, and screaming with joy as you fly through the air.
