Kokam Soda or Kokum Fizz is an incredibly simple drink to make & needs concentrated kokum syrup as the main ingredient. It pretty much needs barely 4-5 ingredients and you can make this anytime.
What is Kokum?
Kokum is a fruit belonging to the Mangosteen family and is known for it's culinary and medicinal uses.
Kokum or Garcinia indica is a small fruit like a cherry tomato, red in colour that deepens to purple on ripening.
Before putting to culinary uses it is often dried though it remains a bit sticky after drying up.
It has a sour taste with a faintly sweet aroma.
I fell in love with everything kokum once I had delicious Sol Kadhi and Kokum Soda in Goa. This led me to read more about this delicious powerhouse of essential nutrients and vitamins and make my recipes with it.

Kokum Fizz is a popular Goan cooling & hydrating beverage consumed in summers.
Now that we have kokum syrup handy, let’s get cracking at making some kokum Soda. Kokum Fizz is a great way to destress yourself when the Sun is right on your head and you need to cool off.
Kokam Fizz is refreshing & rejuvenating. You can even garnish it with a few mint leaves. The recipe below has mixes made with both sprite & soda. I usually make it with soda water & ice, though you can make it with either.

How is kokum fizz made?
I make this with my homemade kokum syrup. Apart from the syrup, it just needs roasted cumin powder, some mint leaves and soda water or sprite.

Ingredients
- 45 ml Kokum Syrup How to make [kokum syrup]?
- 1 teaspoon Cumin Powder Roasted
- 200 ml Cold Soda Water Sprite
- 1 teaspoon Mint Finely Chopped
- 1/6 teaspoon Black Salt
Instructions
- Take a tall glass and pour the kokum syrup into it.
- Add roasted cumin powder & black salt and mix well.
- Add a few ice cubes and soda (or sprite).
- Garnish with some fresh mint leaves & serve immediately.
Notes
- Prepare this recipe just before serving.
- You can use a cold soda. Alternatively, you can add ice cubes while serving as I have done.
- I have a kokum syrup which already has sugar. For more sweetness dissolve 2 tbsp sugar in 1 cup of syrup and then add soda.
