- Ensure that you fry them with oil at the right temperature. If the oil is cold, the roll will absorb more oil.

- Add vegetable like carrots, peas, sweet potato and corn to enrich the potato filling mixture.

The name “bread roll” has been made by its makers according to their method of cooking and ingredients used to stuff the dough.
How to Make a Bread Roll?
Here is an easy way to make a bread roll.
Make the potato mash – using a potato masher mash and mix potatoes, green chillies, coriander, ginger, garlic, turmeric, red chilli, dry mango powder and salt.
Briefly soak the slice in water.
Squeeze out the water and place 3 tbsp of mashed potato filling on the slice.
Make the rolls. You can shape them to your desire choose from round, cylinder, oblong, balls.
Deep fry the bread rolls till well browned and crispy.
Serve the potato stuffed bread rolls with some salad and chutney.

Ingredients
For the Filling
- 4 piece Large Potatoes boiled and peeled
- 3 piece Green Chilies finely chopped
- 2 tbsp Coriander finely chopped
- 4 cloves Garlic finely chopped
- 1/2 inch Ginger finely chopped
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder haldi powder
- 1/4 tsp Red Chilli Powder lal mirch powder
- 1/2 tsp Dry Mango Powder amchur
- 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil for frying
- 1/4 tsp Salt please adjust it to your taste
For the roll
- 8 slices White Bread trim the edges (optional)
- 2 cups Water to soak
Instructions
For the Potato Mash Filling (Uncooked)
- Mash the potatoes and mix with chopped green chilies, coriander, ginger, garlic & salt.
- Then, add and mix turmeric, red chilli and dry mango powders. Keep aside.
For Making the Bread Rolls
- Dip each slice in the soaking water mixture. Press the soaked slice of bread between your palms to squeeze out as much water as you can.
- Lay the soaked sliced flat on your chopping board and add about 3 tbsp of the cooled potato mixture, down the middle.
- Now roll the bread, covering the filling, like a cylinder, ball or a sphere whichever works for you.
- Pinch all the open ends close sealing the gaps.
- Repeat the same process for all the slices.
- Meanwhile heat oil in your deep fryer or wok. Make sure that the oil is medium hot.
- Deep fry the pieces till they turn a deep golden brown. Drain them on an absorbent paper.
- Note : the bread roll should sizzle and bubble immediately when put in the oil. If the oil is a little cold, the bread roll will soak up excess oil.
Served Bread Rolls
- Serve and eat homemade bread rolls with your favorite mint chutney.
Notes
- This bread roll recipe require uncooked mash of potatoes which how North Indians usually make their bread rolls.
- Make sure the filling is cooled before adding it to the bread slice.
- Do not over soak the bread and squeeze all water before adding the stuffing to the bread slice.
- Just dampen the bread. One dip is usually enough for the same. Excessive soaking may break the bread into fragments and render it useless.
- Close the roll properly from all sides.
- Ensure the oil is heated to moderate or medium heat before you fry. The bread roll should sizzle and bubble immediately when put in the oil. If the oil is a little cold, the bread roll will soak up excess oil. And, if it is too hot, the bread will fry unevenly.
- Do not turn the rolls for the first 10 minutes, flip with a fork or spoon once they are golden from the bottom.
- Instead of dry mango powder, you can use lemon juice or dry pomegranate seeds powder (anardana powder). Some chaat masala can also be added to the potato filling.
- Herbs like mint leaves with coriander will increase the freshness of the filling.
