Chawal Garam Masala – Simple, No Fuss & Adequately Spiced
While I have made this with fresh rice, you can make it with leftover rice from yesterday as well. To garnish it, you can even add some cashew nuts and sultanas to the rice.
Garam masala rice recipe is a simple and delicious rice recipe that you can make within 15 minutes. This rice is perfect to serve with the chicken curry or with simple raita. You can call this rice something in between biryani and pulao.

This recipe is the same as the masala rice recipe that uses whole spices and your imagination. Chawal Garam Masala easily marries the whole spices with the goodness of basmati rice. The end results are simply divine. Enjoy this flavourful rice preparation with veg or non-veg curries or just lentils. Just the way you like it.
Tip: Soak the rice for half an hour or so prior to cooking. You can use oil instead of ghee and make this recipe vegan too. But, ghee fluffs up the rice and gives it an amazing aroma. you can also enhance its flavour by adding fried onions which gives it a biryani like taste and aroma.

The recipe of garam masala rice is quite simple to prepare. If you have leftover rice, then half of your work is done as rest of the process is very easy & quick. To make this aromatic rice first, you just need to cook the rice. Then temper the cooked rice with whole garam masala spices and garam masala powder.
Chawal Garam Masala – Simple, No Fuss & Adequately Spiced Rice
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Basmati Rice Washed clean & soaked for 30 mins
- 1 Teaspoon Ghee
- 0.25 Teaspoon Salt
- 2 Cups Water
- 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds or Jeera
- 2 - 3 piece Green Cardamom
- 1 piece Black Cardamom
- 1 piece Bay Leaf
- 1 piece Red Chilli
- 1 piece White Peppercorns
- 1 piece Star Anise
- 1 Inch Cinnamon
- 3 - 4 piece Cloves
- 0.5 Teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
Instructions
- Soak the rice for half an hour after washing it thoroughly.
- Add whole spices to a frying pan and saute them with ghee till fragrant.
- Put the saucepan on fire to start cooking the rice.
- Add the sauteed spices to the saucepan.
- Give a stir
- Bring the water to boil and reduce the flame to low.
- Wait till you see dips on the surface of the rice.
- Fluff the dried rice with a fork.
- Plate and serve.
